      KRFP ARTS AND EVENTS CALENDAR 2-1-2012

      Third Street Gallery Arts and Travel Show opens February 3rd and runs through March 23rd.The gallery reception is Wednesday, February 22 from 5pm – 7pm.Third Street Gallery is located at 206 E. Third Street, Moscow, hours are M-F 8-5 pm.

      1912 Center Winter Hallway Show “This and That” will open February 3rd from 5 to 7 p.m. Bring the whole family to enjoy free food, music and guess what each artist has chosen to feature. The 1912 Center is on Third Street across from Moscow High School.

      There is an exhibit of Kendrick –Julietta Arts Committee and Friends at Gritman Medical Center Opening on Friday, February 3rd with a reception from 4- 6 p.m. in the Conference Center at Gritman.

      The Prichard Gallery is holding their Biennial Benefit Auction February 11th . It is one of the major fundraising events of Friends of Prichard Art Gallery and supports the exhibition and educational programs of the gallery.

      The Palouse Women Artists “Shrine” show is currently on display at Bloom Restaurant, Bloom is located on Friendship Square in Downtown Moscow.

      The University of Idaho Women’s Center will present its 2012 production of Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues on February 2, 3 and 4th at Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre at 7PM in Downtown Moscow . The script for this year’s play features a brand-new monologue to raise awareness of the violence perpetrated against three communities of women and girls in Haiti, The Democratic Republic of Congo and post-Katrina New Orleans. Proceeds from the play will go to Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse, the Women’s Center, and global V-Day projects . Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 at the University of Idaho Women’s Center and at Eclectica located at 221 E Third Street. $15 at the door night of performance.       The Moscow League of Women Voters continue their weekly presentations Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. On February 8th Margrit Von Braun will present “Terragraphics Cleanup of the Lead Poisoning Epidemic in Zamfara, Nigeria”, in the Fiske Room at the 1912 Center. On February 15 th Mayor Nancy Chaney will give the “State of the City Address” at the University Inn Best Western. The public is welcome to attend

      Experience a spectacular display of flying fingers as more than 30 virtuoso pianists, faculty, students and community piano teachers perform on six pianos. The Lionel Hampton School of Music’s 2012 Piano Bash: “Flying Fingers” will take you on a rousing musical journey. Saturday, February 4, 7:30 – 11pm and Sunday, February 5, from 3 – 7pm at Haddock Performance Hall – Music Building 222. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the School of Music office or at the door.

      Palouse Folklore Society presents auto-harp master Bryan Bowers in a special Concert at 3p.m. Sunday, February 19th at the 1912 Center. Tickets available at the door.

                  Call for artists: The 1912 Center and Heart of the Arts theme for the Winter Hallway Show is “This and That”. Original pieces of art will be accepted at the 1912 Center on January 30th. For more information call 208-669-2249 or go to 1912center.org. This show will open with a fun family event on February 3rd.

                  The Dahmen Barn in Uniontown, Washington is looking for artists who work with found objects for the 6th Annual Art Demonstration Day April 14th . The theme will be art from found or repurposed materials of any type, decorative or functional. Artists will be onsite to exhibit and demonstrate their work.                   Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest has several important events coming up.

                  January 28th join Planned Parenthood and Add the Words Idaho Campaign in a statewide day of action to support an amendment to the Idaho Human Rights Act. This amendment would include protection against discrimination in areas of employment, housing, education and public accommodation. Rallies and vigils are planned.

                  February 20th is Reproductive Health and Rights Lobby Day and you can participate as a citizen lobbyist; Planned Parenthood will provide the training you need to make your voice effectively heard to our elected officials in Boise.

                  The next Washington Idaho Symphony concert performance “Red White and Blue” is Saturday January 28th at 7:30 p.m. in the Gladdish Center in Pullman, Washington. This concert features work from composer in residence Ryan Hare, as well as Aaron Copeland and Young Artist Competition Winners. You can also enjoy this performance on Sunday January 29th at 3p.m. at Clarkston High School. For ticket information go to idahowashingtonsymphony.org

                  The 45th Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival happens February 22nd through the 25th on the University of Idaho campus.
